Our Therapy Team
Welcome to Church Lawton School: Meet Our Transdisciplinary Team
At Church Lawton School, we pride ourselves on being a specialist school dedicated to supporting students with autism. Our transdisciplinary team is a cornerstone of this commitment, working collaboratively to ensure that each student receives personalised and holistic support tailored to their unique needs. Comprising a Speech and Language Therapist, an Occupational Therapist, an Assistant Educational Psychologist, and an Autism Lead, this expert team provides a comprehensive approach to nurturing our students’ development and well-being.
Speech and Language Therapist
Communication is a key area of focus for many of our students, and our Speech and Language Therapist plays a vital role in fostering these skills. Through assessments and personalised intervention plans, the therapist helps students improve their ability to express themselves, understand language, and engage in social interactions. This work not only enhances academic progress but also empowers students to build meaningful relationships and navigate everyday life with greater confidence. The therapist also collaborates with staff to implement strategies in the classroom, ensuring communication support is seamlessly integrated into daily routines.
Occupational Therapist
Our Occupational Therapist specialises in helping students develop the practical skills they need to thrive in school and beyond. This includes supporting sensory integration, motor coordination, and daily living skills. By creating sensory-friendly environments and individualised programs, the Occupational Therapist helps students manage challenges such as sensory sensitivities, enabling them to remain focused and engaged in their learning. Additionally, the therapist works closely with staff and families to provide strategies that extend into the home and community, promoting consistency and long-term progress.
Assistant Educational Psychologist
The Assistant Educational Psychologist is dedicated to understanding the cognitive, emotional, and behavioural aspects of each student’s experience. By conducting assessments and consultations, they identify barriers to learning and recommend targeted interventions to address these challenges. This role involves working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other team members to ensure that the strategies implemented are evidence-based and student-centered. The psychologist’s insights contribute to creating an inclusive, supportive, and empowering environment where students can build resilience and achieve their potential.
Autism Lead
The Autism Lead serves as an advocate and specialist, ensuring that the unique needs of autistic students are at the heart of every aspect of school life. By providing expert guidance, training staff, and overseeing the implementation of autism-specific practices, the Autism Lead ensures that Church Lawton School remains a beacon of best practice in autism education. They also work directly with students, helping them develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, and coping strategies, while fostering a sense of belonging and acceptance within the school community.
A Holistic Approach to Support
At Church Lawton School, our transdisciplinary team exemplifies the synergy needed to address the diverse needs of our students. By working together, these professionals create a cohesive support system that enhances every aspect of a student’s development—academic, social, emotional, and physical. Whether it’s unlocking communication skills, providing sensory strategies, addressing learning barriers, or championing autism-friendly practices, the team’s collaborative efforts ensure that each student receives the care and support they deserve to flourish.
We are proud of our transdisciplinary approach and its profound impact on the lives of our students and their families. Together, we build brighter futures, one step at a time.
